Technical Note 27
Windows 10 and 11 Installation Instructions
The Windows 10 and 11 installation procedure is similar to previous versions of Windows. This topic will explain the details of the "Pro Bundle" (BBx-Xo Bundle) installation of BassBox 6 Pro and X•over 3 Pro. The individual installation procedures for BassBox 6 Pro, BassBox 6 Lite and X•over 3 Pro are very similar and differences will be noted where they exist.
Before beginning an installation, you should be logged into Windows with a user account with administrator privileges. Later, we recommend that you run the programs only from the same user account. We also strongly recommend that you use the default settings during installation and do not change the drive or path where the programs are installed.
Installation Procedure
- Insert the BassBox/X•over Pro CD-R disc into a compatible CD, DVD or Blu-ray drive. A message similar to the one shown below should appear in the lower right corner of the display.
Click the middle of the message so you can choose what to do next.
- A dialog box similar to the one shown below should appear. Click on "Open folder to view files".
- The Windows File Explorer should appear next as shown below.
Locate the "setup" folder on the installation disc. The name of the folder will vary slightly, depending on the contents of the disc as listed below.
setup-z - Both BassBox 6 Pro and X•over 3 Pro (BBx-Xo Bundle)
setup-b - BassBox 6 Pro only (BassBox Pro)
setup-x - X•over 3 Pro only (X-over Pro)
setup-bl or setup-blc - BassBox 6 Lite (BassBox Lite) - Locate the installer (setup.exe) and right-click on it. Then select "Run as administrator" as shown in the previous illustration above.
- A "User Account Control" message will probably appear as shown below.
The purpose of this message is to confirm that you want to allow the installer (setup.exe) to continue. Click on the "Yes" button to continue.
- The installer should now begin to run. It is an industry-standard InstallShield installer and its first step is to load its "Wizard" to guide you through the rest of the installation process. As it loads, you should see the title art in the middle of your display and a "Setup" message with progress bar in the lower right corner of your display as shown below.
Please see Technical Note 26 if the installer should fail to load and you never see the above images on your display.
- Once the installer has finished loading, it will begin to search your computer for existing components. There are several parts to this. It needs to know if the software you are about to install is already installed. If it is, it will ask you to uninstall it first because only one installation is allowed at a time. And the installer needs to know what Windows system components are already installed on your computer so it won't try to install them again. This search can take several minutes if your storage device is very large and has many millions of files.
- The Welcome dialog will appear next as shown below to remind you that other programs should not be running in the background during the installation. As a general rule, it is best whenever you install or update a computer program, to exit all other programs first. Also, if it has been a while since you last restarted Windows, it is a good idea to do that to insure that you have a fresh instance of Windows running. We also recommend that you temporarily disconnect from all networks, including the internet, and disable your antivirus, antispyware, anti-malware and firewall software during the installation. These programs are sometimes too aggressive and can interfere with the normal operation of the setup program. For more information, please see Technical Note 24. (Important: Make sure that you turn back on your antivirus, antispyware, anti-malware and firewall software before reconnecting to a network—especially the internet.) Click on the "Next" button to continue.
- The Software License Agreement will appear next as shown below. Please read it before proceeding. This is a legal document that you must agree to before you can proceed with the installation. If you do not, then click the "No" button to exit the setup program. We offer only single-user licenses for our software. It allows you to install the programs on more than one computer as long as they are used on only one computer at a time. It also allows more than one person to use the programs as long as only one person uses them at a time. You can think of them as a book that only one person can read at a time. Our software should never be installed on a network. Nor should you ever make copies of the installation disc to give to other people. However, you can make a backup for yourself (recommended). Once you've read the license agreement and agree to abide by its terms, then click the "Yes" button to continue.
- Next you must enter your registration information. Since this example follows the Pro Bundle installation, it requires two serial numbers (one for BassBox Pro and one for X•over Pro) and two dialog boxes will be used as shown below. If your installation disc contains just one program requiring just one serial number, then the User Information and Serial Numbers dialogs will be combined into a single dialog.
Enter your name and, if desired, company name in the input boxes of the User Information dialog shown below. Please keep the names simple—do not use punctuation like quotation marks. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
Enter the serial number for each program in the Serial Numbers dialog shown below. In the case of BassBox Pro and X•over Pro, their serial numbers are located inside the front cover of their respective printed User Manual. The BassBox Lite serial number is located on the back of its CD case. Each serial number consists mostly of numbers—however there will be one letter in the middle and sometimes one or two letters on the end. Usually all "0" are zeros and not the letter "o". The serial numbers are not case sensitive and you can use upper or lower case. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
The Registration Confirmation dialog will appear as shown below so you can double-check your information. If it is correct, click on the "Yes" button. Otherwise, click on the "No" button and the program will return to the previous User Information dialog so you can re-enter your information and the serial number(s).
Only one serial number is valid for each program on your installation disc and the setup program will check to verify that you entered the correct ones while displaying the message below:
- The Setup Type dialog will appear next as shown below. We strongly recommend that you do NOT change these settings. Use the default "Typical" installation and use the default Destination Folder (usually "C:\Program Files\HT Audio" for 32-bit versions of Windows and "C:\Program Files (x86)\HT Audio" for 64-bit versions of Windows). BassBox Pro, BassBox Lite and X•over Pro may not function properly if you use a different Destination Folder. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
- The Select Program Folder dialog will appear next as shown below. This setting is less critical, but again, we recommend that you use the default setting. Click on the "Next" button to continue.
- The Start Copying Files dialog will appear next as shown below. It will display a summary of the settings you have entered, giving you one last chance to go back, if desired, and make changes.
If everything is okay, click the "Next" button and the programs and their dependent files will be installed onto your computer. A progress bar will appear during the process as shown below:
If a Read Only File Detected dialog appears like the one shown below, you should probably respond by clicking on the "No" button. Later, if BassBox Pro, BassBox Lite or X•over Pro do run properly, you can uninstall them, reinstall them and select "Yes" the second time.
- When the installation has completed successfully, the following Information dialog will appear. It explains that you can launch the programs from the Windows Start menu.
- Finally, a Program Compatibility Assistant dialog may appear and, if it does, its timing may vary. It may appear soon after the installation has completed or it may appear the first time that you launch one of the programs. It will want you to confirm that the programs were installed correctly. Unfortunately, its message may appear cryptic like the one shown below:
It may list the "Setup Launcher" as the program and "InstallShield Software Corporation" as the publisher. Or it may list the application name (BassBox 6.exe, BassBox 6L.exe, or Xover 3.exe) as the program. If a message like this appears, please click on "This program installed correctly".
That's it! The programs should now be ready to run. We suggest that you read Technical Note 23 before you launch the programs. It explains what happens the first time you run them (a special welcome/configuration procedure will run). Technical Note 23 will familiarize you with this process so you will know what to expect.
Startup Procedure
- Click on the Windows icon (or press the Win key on the keyboard) to summon the Start menu. The program(s) you just installed should be listed under "Recently added" at the top of the menu. Click to launch a program.
Unfortunately, Windows 10 isn't very consistent and sometimes fails to list all of the recently added programs. In the example above, both BassBox 6 Pro and X•over 3 Pro were installed. Yet only X•over 3 Pro is listed.
- If a program is not listed, click on "All apps" at the bottom of the menu as shown below.
Then check to see if all of the installed programs are listed here under "Recently added" as shown below. If so, click on the desired program to launch it.
- If a program is still not listed, scroll down the list of programs to the "HT Audio" folder and click on it. The program will be listed there as shown below. Click on it to launch.
